4.6.6 Perspectives
Introducing different models of disability has proven to be a good starting point for challenging perceptions and views of disability, both for government authorities and for people with disabilities themselves. It is planned to continue capacity development activities, and to extend these to other provinces. A working group will accordingly be established with the purpose of revising and publishing the existing training materials on disability models and policies and guidelines (e.g. UN Convention) on peer counselling, advocacy and lobbying. A pool of facilitators will also be trained. IDEA will act as an agent and strengthen the network between national and provincial level.
The projects have demonstrated that bringing together stakeholders from different sides is right from the start a precondition for building mutual trust and increasing the willingness to learn from each other.
