7.1.5 Development of a joint strategy
The development of a strategy or its modification is based on three overlapping key issues that have been mentioned above:
- The identity of the organisation: Who are we? (organisational self-assessment)
- The stakeholder system: Who are the others? What are they doing? What do they want? (identity of the national disability movement)
- The establishment of a joint strategy based on an interpretation and a combination of the results of the analysis: What are we doing/what do we want to do, and why? What is our position, and why? What can we achieve together?
Given the frequent overlaps between these three elements, certain questions and problems can be anticipated. For example, discussing the identity and the profile of the organisation leads almost inevitably to an examination of the vision and what is being done in this regard. Nevertheless, it is still important to examine all three elements in turn, because only then will it be possible to develop a coherent strategy that systematically answers the question “How will we achieve our objectives?”.
