7.2.1 Funding

Every planning stage and project implementation stage needs resources, including materials, staff, knowledge and money. Many development agencies obtain financing from other parties (e.g. national and international donors or private donors). (I)NGOs can apply for grants from public institutions (e.g. ministries and departments) or from private foundations and organisations. Normally the grant-givers require reports and a list of expenses from the receiver, in order to control the implementation of the activities and to ensure the appropriate use of the money. (I)NGOs also receive donations from private persons and enterprises. Fundraising is a profession that adapts the strategy to the source of money targeted.
